Annual Fall Hearing Ability Screening and Testing

ESU #1 area schools that contract for audiological services are a part of the Annual Fall Hearing Ability Screening and Testing. A team goes to each school and screens and tests all students kindergarten through 12th grade. If a problem is noted, the child's parents or guardians are contacted, either by telephone call or letter, and recommendations are provided. Those students are then placed on a list for periodic recheck by the audiologist, which is updated following each visit.

Teachers are notified if any of their students are being followed due to audiological concerns. Appropriate educational recommendations are also provided to the teacher for each child's individual needs.

If parents or teachers note possible changes in a child's hearing ability, referrals can be made anytime throughout the year by contacting your local school district and requesting an evaluation.
